Reviewers contribute independent subject expertise to scholarly evaluation. Reviewer selection should reflect manuscript relevance, expertise, research experience, availability and absence of disqualifying conflicts of interest.
Reviewer expectations
- Maintain manuscript confidentiality.
- Declare actual or potential conflicts of interest before reviewing.
- Provide evidence-based, constructive and respectful comments.
- Evaluate methods, results, interpretation, ethics and reporting quality.
- Complete reviews within the agreed timeline or request an extension promptly.
- Do not use unpublished information for personal advantage.
Recognition
Reviewer recognition may acknowledge substantive, constructive and timely peer review. Recognition must never depend on recommending acceptance or rejection.
